Butt Family Cannery

Murphy Rd & Butt St, Geebung QLD
Located on the corner of Butt Street and Murphy Road, the traffic box art pays tribute to the famous Butt Family Cannery, by lawfully replicating sections of original can labels. In 1910, the Butt Family moved to a farm in Murphy Road, Zillmere, which had a pineapple plantation. Using his skills as a tinsmith, Mr Butt hand-made cans, and by 1923 the Butt Family Cannery – F.G. BUTT & SONS Ltd – was trading not only canned pineapple, but also pineapple juice, tropical fruit salad, and a large variety of jams. It was a very important family business in growing the local economy in Zillmere and Geebung areas until it closed in 1960.
